Strategically Positioned on the East Coast

King George sits within a day's drive of nearly a third of the U.S. population. The Port of Virginia and the Port of Baltimore are both reachable inside 250 miles, while Washington, D.C., Richmond, and the broader Mid-Atlantic corridor are all within easy reach for freight, talent, and clients.

The county is also less than an hour from five major military installations — NSF Dahlgren, NSF Indian Head, NAS Patuxent River, Fort Walker (A.P. Hill), and Marine Corps Base Quantico — putting your business at the center of the region's national-security economy.

Business Appreciation Reception

The King George Business Appreciation Reception is an annual event where we recognize our local businesses and hand out the Best of The Best Awards.

Government & Defense Contractors and R&D

King George's government contracting community is specialized, with over 4,000 national-security and governmental-affairs workers. The county offers one of the best location values for government and DoD contracting and satellite-office sites in the mid-Atlantic — less than an hour from five major military installations, including NSF Dahlgren, NSF Indian Head, NAS Patuxent River, Fort Walker (A.P. Hill), and Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Our R&D sector is primarily public-sector based, but Dahlgren's presence has created a regional hub for tech-ecosystem initiatives that spur innovation outside the gates. NSF Dahlgren supports over 11,000 public and private-sector jobs, most of them in STEM. Companies like SimVentions, Lockheed Martin, Future Technologies, Booz Allen Hamilton, Raytheon, and Technology Service Corporation all keep satellite offices in King George — and about 30% of Dahlgren's workforce lives in the county, a share that keeps growing.

Specialized Agriculture & Agritourism

King George's specialized agricultural community creates real growth opportunities in greenhouses, floriculture, apiculture, and market gardens — and its agritourism brings added tourism and recreation, from picking flowers at the Bloomia Tulip Festival to enjoying a drink at Creekside Farm Brewery.

The county is home to Hortigroup LLC, a forty-acre greenhouse operation with internationally known tenants such as Bloomia (tulips), Bell Nursery (Home Depot's flower producer), and Bonnie Plants (herbs, plants, and vegetables). Green Acres Nursery, a regional nursery and lawn-care retailer, is here too.

King George embraces 21st-century farm and greenhouse operations that depend on fiber-optic connectivity, specialized sensors, and automation to meet the demands of consumers and wholesalers. Our community is uniquely equipped to help this industry grow.
